The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay technology.
Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Athletes will gain the right to challenge certain calls from the official, following the protocol currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move comes just a year after the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review other decisions, including:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent incident occurred in Indian Wells last week, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
